We had some thoughts after Google’s Pixel 9 event this past week, so without further ado, here they are.
It is quite different if the event is in August rather than October.
October 4, 2023, saw the announcement of the Pixel 8 series. October 7, 2022, saw the announcement of the Pixel 7 series. This time, Google managed to introduce more devices in the middle of August, which is rather astounding!
The dynamics of the launch are completely altered by moving the unveiling from early autumn to the blazing summer, making the Pixel 9 series a strong contender to take over your summertime vacation photos. This presents a significant chance for Pixel phone enthusiasts. In addition, Google’s phones are currently selling a full month ahead of Apple’s iPhones.
We appreciate the updated flat design.
These days, everyone appears to be making their phones look more attractive. Apple pioneered the technology several years ago, followed by Samsung with the Galaxy S23 series, and this year saw the release of the S Ultra flat. Google has now updated the Pixel with this.
We enjoy how the Pixels now seem. They are also less rectangular and have slightly rounded corners that make them comfortable to grasp.
Going flat could help lessen the likelihood that the phone would shatter if you drop it, but more significantly, glass covers are simpler to install. Moreover, the flat side makes it simpler to utilize the available volume to its fullest.
But next year, please make all surfaces matte.
The polished metal finish on the Pixel 9 Pros frame is the most likely place to find fingerprints (well, maybe piano black plastic trim on cars). Additionally, the rear glass panel of the stock Pixel 9 is shiny and becomes dirty quickly, in contrast to the Pros’ frosted appearance.
Just take a peek at the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15, and please, thank you, make everything matte!
It’s audacious to make a little Pixel 9 Pro, but will it succeed?
Arguably the biggest (ha!) headline of the event is the smaller Pixel 9 Pro. Although many consumers wouldn’t mind sacrificing features, they would rather have a small phone than an ultra-sized flagship.
However, sales figures show that the majority of consumers prefer large displays, and the current trends in multimedia consumption provide a clear enough justification for this. This may indicate that the Pixel 9 Pro’s commercial prospects are not good.
Even worse, Google further hurt its hopes by releasing the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL a week after the original launch, while the Pixel 9 Pro won’t be available until September.
Only its second iteration, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a mature foldable device.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold was a welcome surprise after the relatively disappointing first Pixel Fold. With its new book-style foldable phone, Google made a lot of smart decisions: the panels are larger, the cover screen has a natural 20:9 aspect ratio, the phone is remarkably thin, and it has a strong camera system.
In the rearview mirror, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold may even give the Galaxy Z Fold6 a nervous appearance. sharper screens, sharper cameras, and more RAM are all features of the Pixel foldable—not bad for a firm that is sometimes chastised for being overly cautious with hardware improvements!.
Updates like the Pixel 9 Pro XL are wise and secure.
For excellent reason, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL will provide for the family’s financial needs. With the largest display and the greatest camera, it’s the ideal option if you’re looking for the best Pixel.
With a brighter ultrawide lens and a new, wider-angle selfie camera, Google made its flagship smartphone far better than the previous model. It also features a smarter new design, particularly at the rear, and the yearly chipset upgrade.
You should use the new ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
The switch to an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is one change that may go unseen, but users of the Pixel 9 smartphones will undoubtedly notice it.
Many have expressed dissatisfaction with the responsiveness and consistency of the optical scanners, which utilize light to read your fingerprint, on Pixel phones up until this point, particularly when it comes to screen protectors.
The finest available technology is Qualcomm’s ultrasonic technology. The scanner is faster and more dependable overall, and it functions even in low light.

Unlike the Pixel 8, the Pixel 9 is not a little phone.
We’re reviewing a Pixel 9, and so far, it doesn’t feel quite as little as you might think.
It feels smaller when you A/B test it versus the Pixel 9 Pro XL. But unlike the Pixel 8, it doesn’t have the same “wow, this is incredibly compact” vibe. More significantly, it is 2.3 mm taller and 1.2 mm wider than it is 11 grams heavier. Put a case on it and it becomes a hefty and heavy phone that’s just minimally more compact than the Ultras out there.
