The first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate from Huawei, was unveiled, but one important component was still unknown: the CPU. The tri-fold is outfitted with the Kirin 9010, according to a hands-on at the launch event in China, despite the company’s official silence on the SoC powering its gadgets.
The chipset has an 8-core CPU with a Maleoon 910 MP4 GPU, comprising 1x 2.3 GHz Taishan Big core, 3x 2.18 GHz Taishan Mid cores, and 4x 1.55 GHz Cortex-A510 cores.
The Kirin 9010, which is produced by the biggest chip manufacturer in China, SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation), is also utilized in the Pura 70 Ultra cameraphone. It is constructed using the same 7 nm technology, known locally as N+2, as the Kirin 9000s seen in Huawei’s Mate 60 series.

Given the limitations faced by Chinese firms, the Kirin 9010’s performance is outstanding and similar to MediaTek’s Dimensity 8200. However, some consumers could be let down by the Mate XT Ultimate’s almost $3,000 price tag and $300 performance as compared to a $300 phone.
